Red Sox Stances

Posted on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 10:41AM by Registered CommenterScott (CEO) in , | CommentsPost a Comment | EmailEmail | PrintPrint

Here's a video of some guy impersonating some past and present Red Sox stances. Although I wish he did Greenwell, Milar and a few other classics. He's not bad, although I think BostonsportZ's own Mike Symes could do a little bit better. Maybe we'll see it happen.

UPDATE: Curse of Red Sox Nation

tek%20paps.jpgFor those of you who think Curses are silly, a waste of everybody's time, and nothing more than a ploy to sell a couple of newspapers, The New York Yankees disagree.

Just two days ago we told you about the construction worker building the new Yankees stadium who, in a bold act of Red Sox loyalty, buried a Red Sox t-shirt in the concrete beneath the ballpark.  Well, it didn't take long for the Yankees to act on that news.

SI.com has reported that the Yankees have had the location dug up and have removed the potential curse.

Team officials watched Sunday as construction workers removed the jersey, with slugger David Ortiz's name on it, from 2 feet of concrete in a service corridor of the stadium that's under construction.

The story should end here.  We should all be going home with a smirk on our faces and a great story to tell our grandkids one day of the Curse That Almost Was.   Another fun tale to add to Red Sox-Yankees lore.

Unfortunately, the Yankees are still the Yankees.  Just when you thought you couldn't hate them anymore, they're contemplating pursuing legal action against the construction worker.  On what grounds, I don't know... perhaps not being an arrogant, a-hole Yankee fan?

One positive note, however, is that they are planning on auctioning off the shirt for charity.

When the dust from this little incident clears, I just hope the Red Sox show their appreciation for this die-hard fan.  It's not often a person not associated with the organization is able to give the Yankees such fits.  At the very least, this guy should get to throw out the first pitch at some point this season.   And I hope Henry wins that auction and encases the shirt at Fenway, for all to see the true power of Red Sox Nation.

This Time, The Curse Is On You, New York

pedro%20-%20zimmer.jpgAn unnamed construction worker in New York is the newest star of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.

Working on the concrete crew building the new Yankee Stadium, this blue-collared hero, in one swift move, may have placed The Curse of Red Sox Nation upon the Yankee’s new home before it's even built.

A devilish Boston fan working on a concrete crew at the $1.3 billion stadium covertly buried a Red Sox T-shirt under what will become the visiting team's locker room to jinx the Yanks, two construction workers told The Post yesterday.

"In August, a Red Sox T-shirt was poured in a slab in the visitor's clubhouse. It's the curse of the Yankees," one worker said. "Nobody knows about it. It's in the floors, it's buried."

While not everyone believes in these “curses”, it’s hard to argue with the results. Most everybody knows of The Curse of the Bambino, or the Billy Goat curse on the Cubs.

"Curses start off very easily. It's all the power of suggestion and they take on a life of their own," said Dan Gordon, co-author of the 2007 book "Haunted Baseball."

Mickey Bradley, co-author of "Haunted Baseball," said a worker is said to have buried an unknown good-luck charm in a water main trench of the current Yankee Stadium back in 1920… "Prior to that, they never they won a World Series," he said.

"I think there is a curse in effect already. Maybe the Red Sox T-shirt is like the icing on the cake, a nice little F-you from Boston," said Peter Nash, author of "Boston's Royal Rooters," a history of Red Sox fans.

For the rest of eternity, just a few feet below the Yankees’ stadium, will reside a bright red beacon of the turning of the tides of this heated rivalry. Although it’s just a t-shirt, it represents much, much more. We now have the upper-hand over New York. We now have the more-powerful fan base. Oh yeah, we also have 2 World Series wins in the past 4 years.  The Yankees?  They have A-Rod.

Buckner Returns

In case you missed yesterday's emotional first pitch. Here is Buckner's entrance and pitch (great pitch) followed by a pot game interview with him and Dewey.

It moved a lot of people, but mostly Yoooouuuk.
“I think that was just the most unbelievable thing,” Youkilis said. “It shows how great of a man Bill Buckner is. Not too many people can do what he did today and face thousands of people who booed him and threatened his life and did horrific things towards him and, when they speak of his name, they think just horrible things. For that man to step out on that field shows what kind of man he is, and I just wanted to shake his hand because that’s a true man in life, a man that can throw away everything. “He’s been through some tough times over the years, and the funny thing about this game is people always say about baseball players and athletes we’re overpaid and just playing a game, but if you ask Bill Buckner, I think part of his life wasn’t a game. People threatened his life over a game. So I think that’s the big thing that I saw and it just hit me there to say, ‘Holy cow, sometimes this is more than a game. It’s life here in Boston.’ To me, it was awesome. I was literally almost in tears for the guy.”

The New Tina

It appears we finally have a new Red Sox sideline reporter to replace Tina Cervaiso who left NESN a few month back. Scott's Shots reported that NESN held an audition for its Red Sox Reporter position over the weekend and that the “contestant” that was received well by those who have the power to hire was former Miss San Diego 2000-03, Heidi Watney. Obviously looks are key to the position, which is fine by me. Here is a sample of her work.

Also it appears comedian Bill Murray is not a big fan of hers as he had a run in with her at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament in 2005.

Never mind the fact the Sox have to play 3 exibition games after playing 2 regular season games. Why do they have to play in the Los Angeles Coliseum vs. the Dodgers Saturday night in front of an expected crowd of 115,000 in a ridiculously stupid converted football field? It will only be 190 feet down the left field line, that's right only 190 feet! Manny will end up playing next to Lugo. Here's the photo.
