Marc Spears of the Globe has a nice piece today about Garnett getting ready for the 2008-2009 NBA season.

For those of you stuck in a cave for the past 5 months, the Celtics won their 17^th NBA Title this past season, but they had to play the most games in NBA post-season history to get it. Due to the length of the post season, and the amount of extra games (and mental and physical wear and tear on KG), he took a little extra time for himself this summer and changed up his offseason workout routine.

Fear not, though, KG is ready to go. While he didn’t workout with his trainer this summer, like he typically does, he began his offseason program on August 1^st and hasn’t stopped since.

“I trained with the intent that they're coming [for me]. But guess what, I'm coming, too. We are coming."

KG on his shortened summer:

"Give me a couple more short summers where I feel like with this team, [we] set our mark. Every Celtics team sort of had their run, and its multiples... This is my opportunity to do that. I'm trying to take advantage of it fully right now."

On the Celtics coming together early as a team to workout:

"We've been in the rotation [working out] for two weeks now. Rajon Rondo got all the guys up [to Waltham] the 5th of September. He called up some of the young guys. Big Baby [Glen Davis] has been in Boston the whole summer. We've been together for about 2 1/2 weeks now, coming in, working out.”

On his future plans:

"But I'm telling you, man, I want to take time to enjoy these next four years. That's not to say I'm going to let up or anything like that. But I'm going to go at this [because] I like how this felt. I need a couple more short summers like this.”

Things are looking good with training camp just around the corner. I love that Rajon took the initiative to gather the troops, and I love even more that KG hasn’t lost the hunger (not that we ever thought he would).
