Two Strange Manny Stories

The first one is from Gordon Edes last column in the Globe as he heads to write for Yahoo sports.

"Of all the Manny moments in Boston, the last ranks as one of the most confounding. Within an hour after Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein informed Manny Ramírez he had been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, Ramírez's agent, Scott Boras, called the Sox back, according to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations. If the Sox dropped the option years on his contract - which they had agreed to do if they traded him - Boras said Ramírez would not be a problem the rest of the season.

"For the Sox, the source said, Ramírez's pledge of good behavior only served as a tacit admission that his disruptive conduct of the last couple of weeks had been calculated, and they had had good cause to suspect more was in the offing if they did not trade him. The Sox told him thanks but no thanks, what was done was done, and pack plenty of sunscreen."

Now that's a crazy story, so crazy that Manny's agent is denying it.

The second one is what Manny said in another exclusive interview with ESPNdeportes.com just 24 hours after the trade.

“I like this city, the environment, the energy in the fans. I think that I’ll play here for the remainder of my career,” Ramirez said .

“I just feel comfortable. Regardless of how hectic Friday was — traveling from Boston with only a few hours of sleep, going to a press conference and later play a game — I started to feel the peace of mind that I was searching for,” Ramirez added.

“The Dodgers brought me here to end my career in this city — at least that’s what I’m thinking. However, we haven’t even discussed the future. I’m simply starting to know this team,” Ramirez said.

“I want to even buy a house in Los Angeles. My kids go to school in Miami, and I’d like them to move with me [to L.A.], but there will be no move until my future here is confirmed. I don’t want to be here for two months and then end up in another city,” Ramirez said.

The last part is very strange where he says what Torre thought about his credentials as a player.

"Torre told me that the most important references that he has of me is that I'm a nonstop worker and a hustler in the field,"

Manny must of misunderstood, I think Joe must have been telling him he wants him to hustle, not that he's known as a hustler.

Ohh Manny!

When I read what Gordon Edes wrote in his article, I wanted to vomit. For him to demand this trade, say that we don't "deserve" him, and after he finally gets his wish, try to back out?! Then, to absolutely admit that he was tanking our team just to force a trade?

He's entered Vince Carter territory.
