Sports Soup: Make Me Laugh

I am, admittedly, a huge fan of E!'s "The Soup".  It is DVR'd every week in my house, I force my wife -- who ironically loves the shows it makes fun of, but can't stand" The Soup" -- to watch it each week, and just this weekend, while walking around the mall, each time I saw a piece of Hannah Montana merchandise I loudly shouted, "It's Miley!".  It only took 2 shouts for my wife to lower her head and embarrassingly tell me, "Alright, that's enough."  No, I didn't stop.

That's why I'm pulling so hard for the Versus networks' new show, "Sports Soup" [Tue. and Thu. at 10pm] to be a success.  Combining two of my favorite things, Sports and making fun of stuff, is a no-brainer for me to watch, and I hope it catches on with the rest of America.  Finally a place to compile all of the weeks worst plays, miscues and announcing gaffes, like Tim McCarver's, uh, "McCarver-isms".

With enough source material, it could be an instant must-watch television show. However, therein lies the shows' potential fatal flaw.  E!'s "The Soup" can draw from literally thousands of shows each week -- Reality Shows, Chat, Soap Operas, News, Celebrity -- their well is virtually limitless. The sports world, however, comes with some very strict limitations and leaves far less possibility for error. Yes, they will have plenty of opportunities to mock Craig Sager's suits, the SportsCenter anchors, and Emmit Smith murdering the English language.  The guys from "The Best Damn Sports Show" will offer much material, and when "Sports Soup" has something good, it will be great -- but I fear, far too often, they may find themselves reaching for clips to fill their 30-minute time slot. And that, if it happens, could spell trouble for "Sports Soup".

Below is a clip of their host, Matt Iseman. It's a round table interview with sports bloggers asking him some questions and gives you a chance to get to know him and his personality a bit. He seems like a great choice -- funny, knowledgeable, and willing to make fun of himself (traits that make Joel McHale of "The Soup" so enjoyable to watch). You can check out the rest of the interview on their youtube page: http://www.youtube.com/user/SportsSoupVersus

We, and by "we" I mean "me", are going to be keeping an eye on "Sports Soup".  Like I stated above, I truly want this show to succeed.  Feel free to drop us a comment and let us know how you feel about "Sports Soup", or, if you don't plan on watching that, at least tell us a story of the time you caught your buddy at the mall checking out a 16-year old girl and shouted, "It's still a felony!"  We're not picky.
