Clay Buchholz Almost A No, No-Hitter
Sunday, September 2, 2007 at 10:22AM
Scott (CEO) In one of The most exciting nights in Fenway Park's history (2 videos below), Red Sox 23 year old rookie Clay Buchholz threw a No-Hitter in only his second major league start. The crazy thing is he wasn't even supposed to start last night. If Friday's scheduled starter Tim Wakefield wasn't scratched due to a sore back and Julian Tavarez, Saturday's scheduled starter, didn't fill in to pitch Friday night. None of this would have happened.
Also, Theo Epstein said after the game that if reached 120 pitches (he threw 115) they would have had to take him out with a no-hitter in the ninth.
Catcher Jason Varitek was asked what would have happened if Buchholz had been lifted in the 9th with a no-no in progress.
"Whoever would have yanked him," he said, "might be walking out with a noose
Here are two videos of the no-hitter courtesy of our friend Dan from Red Sox Monster. The first is Jerry and Don's call from NESN, the team's reaction and Buchholz on field interview.
This one is a fan's video. Listen to the woman scram Ohhh my god!! like she's being killed.
